Questions To Ask Before You Get A Rental Moving Truck

by Jerome Young

There are some instances due to budget or other considerations in which you decide to rent your own moving truck, rather than pay a removalist to do the work for you. But if you've never had a prior experience renting a moving truck, here are some of the questions to ask a prospective rental company before signing on the dotted line.

Do You Guarantee The Exact Size Truck One Can Book? -- This may seem like an odd question, but you'd be surprised how many times a customer shows up to pick up their rental truck, only to discover that the truck rental company has given them the wrong sized truck. This can happen if the company overbooks and no longer has the size of truck you booked weeks or days before. And if you don't read the fine print on the contract, or ask ahead of time, you may be stuck with the wrong truck for your moving needs. So ask if the company guarantees the size of the truck. Some companies will even rent a truck from another company or franchise location in order to ensure that you get the truck you ordered.

What Is Covered In the Quote You Are Giving? -- This is a very important question because truck rental companies operate differently when it comes to providing you a quote. Some will include everything such as insurance and fuel costs, while others will only quote you the price of renting the truck per day, inclusive of the distance you will be travelling. Make sure to ask exactly what the quote you are receiving covers, so that when you pick up the truck, you don't experience sticker shock. The most important costs are price per day, mileage charges, fuel fees and liability insurance coverage costs that protect you in the event that you are in an accident.

Can One Drop Off The Truck In Another Territory? -- A vital question if you don't want to have to make a long trip back to the main office of a truck rental company instead of just being able to return the truck to a location near your final destination. If you choose a small truck rental company, chances are that if you are moving across states, you will have to make a return trip to turn in the rental truck. That's why you may want to consider hiring a truck rental company that has multiple locations or that has arrangements in place with a big company so that you can return the truck at a convenient place.

About Me

A Beginners Guide to Real Estate

Hello, my name is Colin and this blog is my beginners guide to real estate. I live alone in Sydney, Australia, and for the past 20 years, I have lived in rental accommodation. However, last year, I decided to take the plunge and to invest in my own home. I spend a weekend looking through the ads for different houses and apartments but I soon realised I didn't know what I was doing. Thankfully, my friend put me in touch with a great real estate agent. The agent talked me through the entire process and helped me to find my dream home. I learnt so much that I thought I would create this blog to help others.
